Character News and Updates From Around the Web - DLP Welsh Festival, New Captain Mickey at DCA, Talking Mickey in WDW and more!

Hi all,

This weekend saw the St David’s Welsh Festival hit Disneyland Paris. This annual event usually comprises of Mickey and Minnie in their traditional finest, a small pre-parade, fireworks and other entertainment throughout the park. Our friends at Characters Photos Blog were there, and their photos will soon be on their Facebook page. They have already uploaded this video to their YouTube, so check it out!

Over on the Character Central Forum, resident Disneyland correspondent Loren posted some more pictures of the new Mickey meet ‘n’ greet area that I discussed yesterday. Much to my surprise, Captain Mickey has started making appearances there! This is a neat touch, and (I know I’m flogging a dead horse here) something that definitely is needed in the character-lacking Resort. We look forward to seeing him in October.

In the Magic Kingdom in Florida, following on from the recent (this week) testing of the meet ‘n’ greet talking Mickey in California, Talking Mickey has started appearing in the Magic Kingdom Opening Ceremony. The talking heads seem to gradually infiltrating more and more areas of the parks – where will they show up next? Maybe even a parade? Anyone think Soundsational may be a candidate for this? We’ll see…

The Animal Kingdom held a special passholder event for the 5th anniversary of Expedition Everest this weekend, and Mickey and Goofy were there in very special expedition outfits. Again with the flogging a dead horse – I do wonder why these outfits are not used for meet ‘n’ greets near the attraction, it is really annoying!

Finally, this week Disneyland Paris held their Shareholder meeting, and there was a sneak peak of things to come. There were characters there, including Merlin, who will be starring in the new hub show from next month, and Lightning McQueen, who makes his Resort debut in the existing Motors Action Stunt Show. I guess we’ll have to go see that now, when he is in it! We usually avoid that show, but he is technically a character! Along with the new hub show, Princesses and Pirates Parties, the two new Adventureland mini-shows (“happenings”) which includes the return of one of the rarest characters – John Darling! - and the return of the Tarzan show, this year is set to be an amazing year at the Resort! We look forward to being back in June and August to check it all out.

Ok, that’s all for now,

Dan.
