On Christmas Eve all the good boys and girls of France leave their shoes by the fireplace filled with carrots and treats for Pere Noel's donkey. If they have been good then the kindly old man leaves them small presents and candy in the shoes in exchange for the carrots. I hear that Pere Noel is a very good friend of Santa Claus and Father Christmas, so even when visiting France, be sure to be on your best behaviour!
