General Update
DisneyDan  Wednesday, March 10, 2010 12:03:30 PM

Hi all,

We have continued to add more content to the site gradually. Hopefully you're all liking it still!

We have both been quite busy of late though, and have fallen behind on proper updates.

I will be attempting to add the latest trip reports soon - I promise! for now, just sit back, relax and enjoy the site!

Thanks! :)

Dan.

Happy March!
PeterPanFan  Thursday, March 4, 2010 7:13:56 AM

Well it was a busy Feb and we had a great trip to Disneyland Paris!  We are currently working on pictures from the trip (as well as catching up on older pictures) and more pictures should be showing up on our flickr accounts (and here) almost daily :D

Some of the character highlights of our trip:

On Valentines Day DLP had some special characters out.  The big highlights were Bernard and Bianca from the Rescuers, Gus and Jaq from Cinderella, and Quasimodo and Esmeralda from Hunchback!  Apparently Bernard and Bianca flew in from Tokyo just for the day... how awesome is that?!?!  Unfortunately, there must have been some problem because they were supposed to be out 3 times for meet and greets but only actually came out once! Luckily for us we found out about them from a new friend we made while there (Thanks Rob!) so we were of course waiting for them for their first set and were able to meet them.  In addition to the meet and greets all these characters were in a special pre-parade for the day.

In addition to the special characters, there were several other special meet and greets.  In the morning Mickey and Minnie were at the Disneyland Hotel in prince and princess outfits.  In the late morning/early afternoon Mickey and Minnie were out in Fantasyland in Valentines Day outfits.  In the afternoon at the Disneyland Hotel Belle and the Beast were out and they were in their ball outfits.  It also looks like some of the other hotels had special meet and greets for the day.

We are really glad we were there for Valentines day and got to meet a bunch of characters we had never met before and are hoping to be there next year again if they do something similar!

Other than Valentines day things were pretty "normal" character wise for Disneyland Paris... which is FAR different than normal for the US parks... there is definitely a lot more randomness in DLP which is great; however, at this point we have met most of the characters that are out frequently.  That isn't to say we didn't meet other characters or there wasn't anything new.  We met a few characters in places we have never seen them before and also saw some out in outfits we had never seen before... and even if we have met a character lots of times it is always great meeting (and getting pictures of them) again!

One nice (well sorta nice...) change they had made since our last trip involved the characters from Star 'n' Cars.  When we were there in Oct most days a lot of the Stars 'n' Cars characters (but not all... for example most of the face characters were never there) were out meeting people near It's a Small World in the early afternoon.  It was a bit strange as the show/parade is in WDS and some of the outfits are more "Hollywood" for the show so it isn't a perfect fit for Fantasyland... but we were very happy to get to meet them in their Stars 'n' Cars outfits so we weren't going to complain :P  Well, now it seems like they have decided to move this meet and greet over to WDS... which makes more sense and also gives people more reason to go over there.  Also, instead of just some of the characters it was almost all of the characters when we were there.  This included all of the face characters as well as Elvis Stitch (who we never saw in Fantasyland).  Personally I think this was a good change and really adds something to WDS... the only downside is since they come out in the main area of the park and spread out all through Production Courtyard and Toon Studio, it is much more obvious they are out meeting (WDS is so small you can see at least some of the characters from 90% of the park when they are out LOL)... this of course means it is MUCH more crowded and you get the usual pushing and shoving and mayhem that occurs for characters at DLP :\  When they were in Fantasyland most people didn't know they were going to be there so while it would get crowded as people stumbled upon them it wasn't like the whole park was instantly aware they were out and mobbed them.

Another thing we made a point of doing this trip was going to the different Hotels in the morning.  For those that don't know, every morning at all of the Disney Hotels they have characters out which is a very nice touch.  With the exception of the Disneyland Hotel there is normally only one character out at a time but they normally switch through the morning what character is there.  To make it even better, when it is one of the Fab 5 they are usually in special resort specific themed outfits!  So for example at the Cheyenne you might meet Cowboy Goofy or Indian Mickey!  While we had met a few characters at the Santa Fe when we were there last Feb and had been making a habit of checking the Disneyland Hotel in the mornings starting in Oct (will talk about the Disneyland Hotel in a min) we hadn't gone to the other hotels.  Dan had previously stayed at the Cheyenne and the Sequoia so he had met a couple characters at them before but he had never met characters at the Newport or New York hotels.  During the course of our trip we went to every hotel (except the Santa Fe) at least twice and got to meet characters in a bunch of new outfits... so these new locations and outfits will get added to the site before too long.  One kinda odd thing was at the New York and Newport they didn't seem to be out in their "normal" outfits for those hotels.  For example at the New York, Goofy was out but was in his regular outfit instead of the New York ones we had seen pictures of... and at the Newport, one morning Minnie was out in a really extravagant frilly dress we had never seen before and the next day Mickey was out in his Winter Wonderland outfit... we weren't complaining about either of those especially since we had never met them before either but hopefully at some point we can meet them in their actual Hotel outfits.

Now onto the Disneyland Hotel, at the Disneyland Hotel they normally have one (or a couple ie Minnie/Mickey or Chip/Dale) of main characters out in the rotunda in a roped off area with a line and a photographer (like the setup in all the other hotels); however, in addition there are normally 2 or more random characters wandering around the hallways around that area.  The characters are pretty random and can be anything from the Pooh characters to Pinocchio characters to Robin Hood characters to Launchpad and Scrooge McDuck.  Needless to say we have started checking there every morning on the way into the park ROFL.  In addition to the morning characters we found out about something new this trip... in the afternoon around 4pm on most weekends (and weekdays during busy periods) there is a little song and dance routine done by random characters in the main reception area with a meet and greet afterward.  It is a nice way to relax for a bit in the afternoon and still meet characters (not to mention a warm place in the winter).  We were there for this a few days this trip and I am sure it will become something we check out regularly!

So... all and all it was an awesome trip and we got to meet some new and very rare characters along with old characters in new outfits!  We also managed to get the French signatures of more characters some of which Dan has already added to the site!  So be on the lookout for pictures from the trip as we add them :D  but here are a couple to start with:

DLP Feb 2009 - Valentines Day at Parc Disneyland DLP Feb 2009 - Valentines Day at Parc Disneyland
Updates and DLP!
PeterPanFan  Tuesday, February 9, 2010 12:35:16 PM

We have been continuing to add lots of stuff to the site with more Characters, Shows, and other things.  In addition, Dan has started going through and adding more detailed descriptions and meet and greet info to some Characters as well as adding more items to their wardrobes.  We still have lots to add including signatures for most characters!

This week so far we haven't added much to the site and this will probably be true for the rest of the week and some of next... but for good reason!  We will be going to Disneyland Paris this weekend for 5 days!  So we will be taking lots of pictures and hopefully meeting some new characters!  Last year on Valentines weekend they had some special rare characters out and we are hoping they do so again this year as some of the characters last year we have never met!

If any of our Paris friends happen to read this and want us to keep an eye out for any of their "friends" please let me know and we will try to get pictures! :)

Have a magical day!

We are now 1 month old!
PeterPanFan  Monday, February 1, 2010 6:54:23 AM

Hi all!

Today is the one month anniversary of the site going live!  While it is still in "development" now and was pretty basic when it we first made it public it has come a long way in a month!

Recently we have been adding some new features including popup larger picture and now paging to allow you to see more images.  We have also added some new sections to the web site including trip reports.  In addition, we have made some behind the scenes changes to make management of the site easier which will hopefully result in us getting more information about characters and places up quicker! :)  We have more features planned along with some improvements to existing features which will make the site even better.

We have also been busily adding more Characters and Parades, Shows, Events, etc.

We really hope you all like the site as it is now and it will keep getting better as we fill in more information.  If you have any feature ideas or general ideas/thoughts about the site please let us know!  We love to hear feedback :D

New Trip Reports section!
DisneyDan  Wednesday, January 27, 2010 11:29:25 AM
Hi all,
So we have now added a trip reports section to the site. Although not publicly visible I have made 2 entries on it and am posting the direct links to them here.
This is a feature we are still working on, and things might be changed or removed, so if these links don't work, then just bear with us - but at time of writing, the should work!

Thanks,

Dan :)
SpectroMagic thru the years...
DisneyDan  Sunday, January 24, 2010 6:06:53 AM

The other day I was going through my old home videos from previous Disney trips, and I was watching my WDW trip from March 2005 with Amy.

I came to the SpectroMagic section. I was interested to see if had been any changes since then that I couldn't remember. So the SpectroMen were different, but I knew that - you can see that on our SpectroMen page. But other than that, it was all pretty much the same - with one notable exception...

This is the current Fantasia crocodile unit (2 pictures):

SpectroMagic

SpectroMagic

Note that that is Hyacinth Hippo that spins around on the top, and Mme. Upanova on the base part.
Here is a screenshot (sorry for the quality), from that March 2005 trip:

SpectroMagic

Hyacinth Hippo! So sometime between March 2005 and June 2008 (when I made a Disney trip and it was as it is now), this changed. They removed her as a character and made her into a giant glowing ball on the top of the float. What is more curious is that they now feature Mme. Upanova on this float... even though this unit is followed by another Fantasia float - with more ostriches on it!
One does wonder why these decisions are made, and by whom...

Of course things like Dumbo aren’t entirely new experiences, as we have rode them it in Florida, but for DLP it was new. It’s always fun to compare experiences of similar attractions across the resorts, even if it is something such as Dumbo! (And we have to be able to say we’ve done everything, right?!)

Characters again

As you can see from the list in the previous character section (in Part One), we were exceptionally lucky this trip in meeting some very unusual characters - even by DLP’s standards! I met 27 new characters and performers, and met 28 characters that I had met before, but in new outfits. Jon met new 22 characters, and new 28 outfits.

We also have over the course of our trips to DLP now come to discover some good locations for regularly meeting some random and indeed rare characters.

Oddly enough, the Main Street Lounge area of the Disneyland Hotel is very good first thing in the morning, up until about 11am. The ISAW gates / outside Pizzeria Bella Notte is THE spot for characters (one day we counted as many as 21 characters up there that randomly came out all at once!), and over by the gates next to Colonel Haithi’s is a good semi-regular (though somewhat more sporadic) location.

These locations have provided us with some of the best “random and rare ones” that we have met, including Chicken Little, Maleficent, Robin Hood and Launchpad McQuack

More later! :)

Links and the like
DisneyDan  Saturday, January 23, 2010 9:46:01 AM

Hi all,

Just thought I'd share with you a couple more links.

This link is to my own website that I have had for a while. It has a lot of trip reports and information on it that might be of interest to some people, from my past adventures to Disney Parks and Resorts.

We are currently working on adding a trip reports section to this site, and when that happens, all those old ones on my old site will be archived here for better ease if reference in the future.

Here you will find my videos from Disney trips (and some other stuff) on my YouTube page. it hasn't been updated in a little while, but there is a lot of good stuff on there.

Both of these links have been added to the links section of this site, too.

Disneyland Paris Halloween 2009 Trip Report - Part 1
DisneyDan  Saturday, January 23, 2010 2:44:05 AM
Dates: 26th October - 1st November 2009.
Guests: Dan and Jon; Hilde and Niels for Halloween day.
Hotel: Hotel L’Elysee Val D’Europe

First and foremost I apologise for this report for being so late in coming! I have been quite busy and have had two more Disney trips since this trip! But anyway, better late than never, here is the trip report for our awesome DLP Halloween trip!

The Hotel
On this trip we were staying for so long at DLP (7 full days), that the hotels onsite worked out too expensive, especially since it was a half term week. So, we ended up booking to stay at the official partner hotel just down the road, the Hotel L’Elysee Val D’Europe.
It is right in the heart of the modern and upcoming Disney-built town and just opposite the train station that takes you one stop, and a 5min ride direct to DLP.
The hotel was modern and functional. The rooms were nice and clean, and th reception staff friendly enough. I can’t really say much more; a hotel is a hotel - it wasn’t a Disney one so there is no theme to comment on etc. I would say if you’re looking for a cheaper but very modern and clean alternative to a DLP hotel, this certainly ticks all the right boxes.

Weather
As far as the last week of October in the heart of France goes, it was exceptionally good weather. The first day that we arrived it was warm enough to walk around with just t-shirts without jackets or sweaters! I have to say that was a nice and welcomed surprise!
Of course, as soon as the 1st November came, it rained and was cold and miserable all day! Luckily that was our last day of 7, and it didn’t matter so much. But mother nature sure knew when winter had arrived!
Even the as mad as he is, Mad Hatter was taking no chances…

As you can see from the list, we were exceptionally lucky this trip in meeting some very unusual characters - even by DLP’s standards!

Halloween Fun
So of course being the last week of October it was Halloween, and the spooks and chills were out in full force! There were a lot of special characters out, such as the Pumpkin People, Jack and Sally and the villains (most notable the Snow Witch, Shan Yu and Gaston).
Regular characters also had special Halloween costumes, and we saw a variety of these from Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, Chip, Dale, Lilo, Stitch, Daisy and Pinocchio.
Minnie’s Party Train (Character Express) was decked out for the Halloween Season, and made it’s way up Main Street multiple times a day. Usually on board with Minnie in her witch outfit were other Fab 5 members and some Pumpkin People. Sometimes Lilo and Stitch were there too.
The last Party Time show of the day was a special extended villains version, which basically involved the villains appearing on the stage and wanting to join in the party, then dancing out the final number with the rest of the characters.
There was also a Halloween Pre-Parade before Once Upon a Dream, which involved a number of villains, Jack and Sally, and Pumpkin People.
The actual parade featured Mickey and Minnie in their Halloween outfits, too.
There was a lot of Halloween decorations about, some more questionable than others (!) but nonetheless the effort was there and it looked very cool overall (though some of the larger orange pumpkin themed things could have been toned down some).
There was also an interesting show over in Frontierland, The Disney Witches Dancing Spells Party. It basically involved Maleficent and The Queen in some sort of battle of the witches, singing it out with some werewolf-looking performers. I can’t say much more than that to be honest! It was ‘interesting’!
Also over in Frontierland, as well as some special character meets (such as Devil Donald, and Scarecrow Goofy), the Crypt Quintet, who are DLP’s resident Halloween band, were out on a number of occasions.

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party
On the Tuesday night (27th) we attended the
new Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Disneyland Park. Although it in practice had been new the year before, it had been such a runaway success, that it was drastically improved and altered, and was a brand new version of a young year-old concept.
I have to say that it was a lot of fun. We managed to meet some VERY cool characters.
The night involved all of the following activities:

Winnie the Pooh, and Friends, too! Show at Fantasy Festival Stage
Merlin and the Witch Academy show in Castle Courtyard
The Disney Halloween Dance Party
The Disney’s “Not-So-Scary” Halloween Show at Central Plaza
The Disney’s “Not-So-Scary” Halloween Cars Cavalcade
Character Meets
Special Pin Tading
Candy Distribution (trick or treating)

Areas that we open were:
Selected restaurants on Main Street USA
Most of Frontierland
All of Fantasyland
Central Plaza
Pirates of the Caribbean area of Adventureland

We managed to see pretty much all of these things.
The Merlin show was ok as a show, but the best thing about it was you got a brief meet n greet opportunity with Merlin himself after! Merlin is of course a very rare character, and Jon and I were extremely happy to meet him!
The Winnie the Pooh show was the same show that they have run for years in normal park hours. The exception being now that the show is actually only seasonal, so it was a unique opportunity to see it outside of July / August and Christmas.
The main show at Central Plaza was quite good. It basically was a battle between the good and bad forces of Disney. It involved Disney heroes and heroines in a confrontation with their villainous counterparts. Sadly for some of the characters it didn’t end very well. Snow White was left asleep and appeared not to be awoken from her slumber! (It was just the way the show was written; it appeared in the way that they told it that she was never awoken!) The show came to a climax when the villains got all too confident, Mickey appears in a cloud of smoke and magic and offers the bad guys a peace offering - “distribution de la bonbon!” - he gives them candy, to keep them sweet!
The Cavalcade was interesting because it basically used the cars from the Stars n Cars event over at WDS, but replaced the characters with ones seen throughout the night at MNSSHP (which were mainly villains and regular characters in their Halloween finest - plus some other random ones too), and of course to a different soundtrack. It was neat to see these cars in a different park, and at night too. After the cavalcade made its way down from Central Plaza all the cars stopped in Town Square and gave you the opportunity to meet some of your favourite Disney stars.
Overall the night was a lot of fun. There was some very cool characters out. There was enough entertainment for the short time of the event (only 4 hours), and was definitely worth the 25,50 Euros each (AP discounted rate).

Stars n Cars
This trip was the first time we had gotten to see Stars n Cars event since it had premiered at the Resort back in March. It basically uses the same cars from the old Stars and Motor Cars Parade at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida. Some of the characters have been switched around slightly, and a couple cars have had some modifications. The main difference about this “event” than its former incarnation is that now it makes its way across the park, and makes a major show stop at Place des Stars. The show I would say is ok overall. Nothing spectacular, but if you want to get some nice character pictures, then it’s good. Jon and I discovered that if you want any chance of meeting any of your heroes though during the brief meet n greet offered during and after the show (before the characters board their vehicles and leave again), the best place to be is actually directly behind the stage. Most of the cars stop here, and you can usually get a whole multitude of characters to stop for you for photos and autographs. This was particularly useful because we really badly wanted to meet Elvis Stitch - with success!

Part Two continues here :)

Updates
PeterPanFan  Thursday, January 21, 2010 8:18:39 PM

Hi all :)

Just thought I would give a brief update.  We are continuing to add more shows, parades, etc including more new characters.  In addition, we are both currently working on our pictures from our Christmas trip to WDW... we are going to Disneyland Paris in a few weeks so would like to get a lot of that done before we go hehe :)

Also, we have been adding more details to some characters and we have lots more to add there.  We have been adding signatures (and have MANY more to still add) as well as pictures of all the costumes they wear... this is something we will focus more on once we have more of the missing shows, etc done... but if you want an idea of what we hope they all will look like, check out Mickey's page... we still have a lot of costumes to add to him but it should give you a good idea.  We also will be adding more detailed descriptions of *everything* so still lots more good stuff on the way!

Again, hope you all like the site and would love to hear from you :)
