Living in the Forbidden Mountains, the Mistress of All Evil and the Wicked Fairy Godmother to Princess Aurora, Maleficent is one of Disney's most dangerous villains.
Maleficent is all knowing, all seeing and all powerful. She appears unexpectedly at Aurora's Christening celebration, and puts a curse on her so powerful that the magic of the Three Good Fairies can only weaken the curse, not dispel it. When Aurora is taken into the care of the Three Good Fairies, Maleficent stops at nothing to try and find her. For sixteen years her henchmen search, but no luck, until Aurora's sixteenth birthday when her guardians decide to use magic again, letting off their location to the evil Maleficent. Capturing Phillip, and luring Aurora into her grasp, Maleficent finally looks set to have her own way. Bitter and jealous of young love, she doesn't kill Phillip or Aurora, but instead decides to separate them for one hundred years. The suffering and torment all too delicious for her wicked appetite. When Phillip escapes though Maleficent is angered beyond imagination, and turns herself into a fire breathing dragon. Phillip's bravery and true heart overcome the Mistress of All Evil though, and the wounded dragon falls to her death.
At the Parks and Resorts
Maleficent is often featured as the main villain in a many shows across the Parks. Currently she can be seen on a daily basis causing trouble for Mickey and friends at the Dream Along with Mickey show at the Magic Kingdom.
At Halloween she usually features in the Magic Kingdom's Villains Mix and Mingle at the Halloween Parties. Maleficent is also the main villain in both Walt Disney World's and Disneyland's Fantasmic! nighttime show. Maleficent appears as a character, then as her dragon form.
In Disneyland Paris she has featured the last couple of years in the special Halloween shows at the Parties there. She also features on the nighttime parade Fantillusion which runs during summer and Christmas seasons.
Maleficent is also depicted as the dragon underneath Sleeping Beauty Castle in Paris, albeit in animatronic form.
In Tokyo Disneyland Maleficent can be seen with her henchmen in the stage show One Man's Dream over in Tomorrowland.
Meeting Maleficent
Maleficent rarely makes appearances at Disney Parks, if ever. The only place you may stand a chance of seeing her outside of special ticketed events, is near the Phantom Manor in Frontierland at Disneyland Paris during Halloween season. I have also seen her randomly by "it's a small world" in Paris during the summer, but that is very rare.
If you decide to attend the Halloween parties in either California or Florida, you may find her at those, but even then she isn't out often.
More Information
Lots more information on where to find Maleficent, and many, many pictures can be found here on her official page on this site.
And finally...
Able to transform herself at will to a fire breathing dragon, apparate at will and cast powerful dark magic upon her victims, Maleficent is truly a force not to be messed with.
A Note From Dan
Normally here I would say that the vote for next week is open, but as you may remember from a recent blog entry, Character of the Week will be taking a break for a few weeks until we get ourselves back in order following our crazy Holiday season. So stay tuned to the blog for all the latest info and news, and for Character of the Week's return!
