Walt Disney World Photo Trip Report, May 2015 - Part 2: Character Fun at the Parks
DisneyDan  Thursday, June 11, 2015 10:17:24 AM
Hello everyone,

This is the second part of my Walt Disney World trip report for May 2015. Part one covered the Four Season character breakfast, the 24 hour event at the Magic Kingdom and Star Wars Weekends. In this part we'll be covering everything else from around the parks.

This report is very photo-heavy, so be sure to have a good connection before continuing.

Let's begin with something new for us this trip - Mickey's Backyard BBQ at Fort Wilderness. We had never done this meal before, and it was high on our priority list to finally get it done.

Having now done this meal though, I don't really see the appeal. The food choices, I thought, were quite limited, with very little in the way of anything, to be honest. For meat eaters there were some meat dishes, but other than that, there was virtually nothing else. The table arrangements were something to be desired, too. Long tables with wooden benches, where everybody sits together is not my idea of comfortable. I'm not sure exactly what to call it, but the restaurant was open at all the sides, and basically had a wooden canopy. It was quite dark and extremely noisy. The main stage had a live band and there was a lasso performer, too. The characters really didn't perform in the "show" except for dancing with children on the dance floor. It was basically a big dance party, a concept which I loathe. When the characters weren't dancing they went to the sides to meet guests. Overall this was fairly painless, except that times were limited because they had to go get ready for the next performance constantly. Every time we got in line, we were told, "You might not get to meet them before the next song is over and they have to go back inside." At the end there was a finale with the characters and the band at the stage, which honestly, was the best part.

So, overall, not the best character dining in the world, and I won't be rushing back. However, the characters' costumes were cute, so I'm glad we finally got those after all these years!

At Disney's Animal Kingdom we had lunch at the Tusker House Restaurant, which we had not done in about seven years. I feel as though this report is going to end up giving a bad name to Walt Disney World character dining, but sadly, I have to say, we didn't have much of a great time here either! We were inside the restaurant for nearly two hours, and due to certain circumstances, we had to call a manager. We were given a free FastPass for the park that day (not that it provided us with much use), and due to one matter and another, we got to meet Goofy again privately so we could get our photos. The food here is actually pretty good, but the overall restaurant experience, was sadly, pretty bad.

Elsewhere at Animal Kingdom we checked out the new Harambe Market area (which for reference has no suitable vegetarian offerings at any one of its four outlets), and met Chip 'n' Dale at Rafiki's Planet Watch.

At Disney's Hollywood Studios, in addition to the Star Wars Weekends events, we watched the Voyage of the Little Mermaid, and met Doc McStuffins. We were extremely fortunate to be given the opportunity to meet Prince Eric and his super cute dog, Max, at the Voyage of the Little Mermaid.

At Epcot we watched several of the recent entertainment "additions" (for want of a better word - I guess replacements works just as well). In Canada we watched the Canadian Lumberjacks, in Italy the Sbandieratori Di Sansepolcro Flags and in Morocco watched B'net Al Houwariyate.

In Future World, at the VISA meet 'n' greet we met Mickey, Minnie and Goofy. We stopped by to give Duffy hugs at Showcase Plaza, and said hello to Belle in France.

At the American Adventure, some Disney characters decided to come out and surprise guests one afternoon. We managed to meet Mickey, Goofy, Max Goof, Eeyore, Donald, Baloo, Tigger and Captain Hook.

Finally we come to the Magic Kingdom. Let's start by looking at which character we met. For some reason for some of the characters I only have a picture with our Tsum Tsums, but they are cute nonetheless!

We watched the Main Street Trolley Show, which is currently in in its summer incarnation, and 'Move It! Shake It! Dance & Play It! Street Party'. Normally I wouldn't even bother with the latter, for reasons which I think most fans understand, but I had promised someone some photos.

We collect the themed popcorn buckets, so we picked up the mine cart popcorn bucket from a cart on Central Plaza.

Finally for the Magic Kingdom, watched Disney Festival of Fantasy a couple of times.
