The Studios Park probably offers the best variation of "different" attractions and experiences, besides Animal Kingdom. Probably a day in this park is enough, with maybe that other half day being used for Epcot or Animal Kingdom.
I would recommend for sure the Great Movie Ride. Each ride is different depending on how you catch its sequence as the gun scene can happen in different places.
There are a lot of unique shows here, the best being Beauty and the Beast.
The stunt show is cool, but can be mind numbingly long.
The Indiana Jones show is also cool, but not a major highlight on a short visit.
I'm not sure if Fantasmic is running any more as it was constantly being cut back and back. I would say if it is on, and you get time. The DL one is better.
The tram tour while unique, I find it worse than watching paint dry. It is long and dull, and years out if date.
As for American Idol, let's just pretend it isn't there.
Despite what others say, if Sounds Dangerous is open, then do it. I find it kinda neat and interesting.
The Animation Tour is identical to the experience in DCA and Paris, where the cast member presents with the aid of Mushu, then the drawing academy and all that stuff.
If you love the thrill rides, the Tower of Terror in FL is the better one, and also Rock n Roller.
As for characters, lots of characters frequent the studios all day. Round the big hat is the best place in the mornings and late afternoons, but check back throughout the day. Lots of random ones!
Inside the animation building, you will find Sorcerer Mickey, the Incredibles and currently Lotso!
Elsewhere in the park, Mike and Sulley meet at the Streets of America.
Outside Playhouse Disney there are lines set up for a multitude of playhouse pals that appear throughout the day.
Block Party Bash happens once a day, but is no big loss of you don't see it.
The one reason to hang about on Hollywood Blvd before Block Party though is because often the Citizens of Hollywood are out. They are unique characters, love to pose for photos (they are Hollywood stars after all!!) and all have very funny personalities!
Ok, so to the last park, Animal Kingdom.
What can I say but, wow! Animal Kingdom is a visually appealing, leafy green park with some wonderful exhibits and some of the best attractions on property.
My recommendations for here are:
Expedition Everest - without question, do it!!
Dinosaur - I love this ride. Imagine the DL Indy ride but with dinosaurs and time travel. Very cool.
Finding Nemo the musical - a very beautiful show
Kali River Rapids - much like the Grizzly Run at DCA, but different in its own way
Kilimanjaro Safaris - the absolute highlight of the park. Do not miss. Fun, beautiful, educational and emotional.
Festival of the Lion King - a spectacular and very popular show.
Attractions wise, there are more, but they aren't anything special and are more "decide if you have time" kinda things.
Notable Characters for you at AK:
Lilo and Stitch on Discovery Island near the entrance to Camp Minnie-Mickey
Main entrance throughout the day, random pals including Ratcliffe, Meeko, Pocahontas, Pooh friends, occasionally the Brers, and others.
Camp Minnie-Mickey - at the trails, fab five friends all in their camp councillor finest! At the Good Times Gathering Spot sometimes some randoms, but usually Koda, Kenai, Thumper and Miss Bunny, and Chip and Dale.
On the path from Africa to Asia - Terk, Baloo, King Louie and Flik.
Rafiki's planet watch - Rafiki, Pocahontas and Jiminy Cricket.
Don't miss the Jammin' Jungle Parade, it is a beautiful parade. The parade actually has to make a loop round the park and so passes thru Africa twice. The best place we have found to watch it is right in front of the drinks bar, on the street of course. There is normally a pin cart very close by. The parade will come from the left, go over the bridge, and re-enter from ahead of you from Asia. Great way to see it twice!!
Ok, that's all for now.
Dan :)
