Character News and Updates from around the Web - Paris Hotels and Duffy
DisneyDan  Monday, September 13, 2010 9:55:43 AM

Hi all,

Just a brief update regarding two things.

Firstly, the Disney's Entertainment Blog has reported that the photo locations for Character Meet 'n' Greets at both the Newport Bay Club Hotel and the Sequoia Lodge Hotel (both at Disneyland Paris), have moved. This is probably to ease congestion around the areas at which they were previously situated. No other changes have been noted.

Secondly, I saw pictures from a contact on Facebook, which sadly I cannot repost, showing the "premiere" of Duffy at Hong Kong Disneyland earlier this week! I had earlier reported that he was due to arrive in the US next month, but was unaware that he was coming to China, too! He was there for the Cast Member launch of the 5th Anniversary festivities at the Storybook Theatre, where the Golden Mickey's normally plays. I have heard from an inside source (thanks William!), that Duffy will start meeting his fans at HK DL around Christmas time this year. The only Disney Resort left without Duffy now will be Disneyland Paris... and I hope it stays that way!

Ok, that's it for now,

Dan :)

Happy 5th Birthday Hong Kong Disneyland!
DisneyDan  Sunday, September 12, 2010 5:36:13 AM

Today Hong Kong Disneyland celebrates it's 5th Birthday.

Hong Kong Disneyland opened on September 12th 2005, and was Disney's third Asian Park, and it's first in China.

Hong Kong Disneyland has come a long way since it's troubled start, and we look forward to all the exciting new developments that are in the works for the next 5 years.

Have a Magical day everyone!

Dan :)

Character News and Updates - Rapunzel, Duffy and Agent Oso
DisneyDan  Thursday, September 9, 2010 8:10:23 AM

Hi all,

So this week saw Stitch Kingdom post the first picture of the new Rapunzel and Flynn Rider characters to feature at Disney Parks from next month. Rapunzel and Flynn will be making appearances in the Magic Kingdom and in Disneyland from October 15th. At the Magic Kingdom it is currently expected that they will be meeting in the Fairytale Garden, where the recently evicted Belle used to have Storytime. The location is interesting because at Disneyland, they will be meeting indoors at the former Gepetto's Candy Shoppe. It recently closed for the remodel to accommodate the new characters. The reason this is interesting is that the DL location is indoors, and the MK location is outdoors. It is expected that Rapunzel will have extremely long hair that would be difficult to move. With an indoor location it allows Disney to allow certain numbers of guests in at a time, then close the door when they are done, allowing Rapunzel and the Cast Members to do what they have to do to "remove" the character. In Walt Disney World the Fairytale Garden is a very exposed location, outdoors. How they are going to handle the arrival and departure of Rapunzel after every set time will be interesting. Watch this space for further news on that one!  [ Read More... ]

Tokyo Disney Resort Trip Report Part One
DisneyDan  Wednesday, September 8, 2010 12:46:35 PM
Hi all,

So this is the report you have all been waiting for! (or at least part one - part two here)
The big one from Tokyo!! I’m sorry it has taken so long, but it has been so crazy since we got back, between more travelling, trying to edit and upload pictures, doing things to the website, work, and other general stuff.
Anyway, here we are. So where to begin is the question?! First off I should say that Tokyo was awesome. We did have a fantastic time, but I’m sad to say there are some “buts” coming!
I should mention that the reason we were able to go this summer was that we actually have a good friend who works for Disney in Florida normally, but had gotten a contract with Tokyo Disney Resort for eight months. He offered for us to go stay with him. This eliminated hotel costs, and actually made it somewhat affordable. Tokyo is MEGA expensive to get to and stay in, and so by having someone to stay with helped massively. So that is why we went in the summer this year. This leads on to my first section…   [ Read More... ]
Which DLP Hotel?
DisneyDan  Tuesday, September 7, 2010 8:10:17 AM
Hi all,

So this week I got asked by someone:

I have been to Disneyland Paris only once before, but I stayed in Paris and just took buses (coaches) back and forth. This time I plan to stay at the DLPR. I am familiar with the hotels there - obviously the gorgeous Disneyland Hotel at the park entrance, but for a short trip alone, that is out of budget. As for the other hotels, is there a particular one you would recommend? How do they compare to the hotels at WDW or DL? - Rob

Magic Kingdom Halloween Parties Hints and Tips
DisneyDan  Sunday, September 5, 2010 2:00:53 AM
Hi all,

With the Halloween Season drawing closer, I thought I would post some hints and tips regarding the Halloween Parties at the Magic Kingdom.

The Halloween parties have become rather stagnant over the last few years, with no real new characters or shows. So everything I tell you will probably still be good in ten years from now!  [ Read More... ]
Magic Kingdom Parade Hints and Tips
DisneyDan  Friday, September 3, 2010 9:21:47 AM

Hi all,

A few more hints and tips for you all here, regarding parades in the Magic Kingdom.

To watch the night parade there is one spot that Jon and I always choose.
It is facing the Castle from Liberty Square, at the bridge that goes over to the hub.

Let me show you:

There is normally a trash can right there, and you can stand right next to it to get great unobstructed views.
The castle in the background not only provides a nice backdrop, but also some extra lighting into your shots in order to make them clearer and less blurry or grainy.

This is also a good spot to watch the day parade.
Other good spots for both parades include right in front of the castle on the hub, facing the castle, and for the Electrical Parade, in front of the train station in Town Sq (with the station behind you). The station lights stays on during the parade, and again offers some lighting to help with those difficult night shots.

With the Electrical Parade, the second run each night is always MUCH less crowded, and is well worth staying later for to get those good shots.

Disneyland Paris Christmas Update
PeterPanFan  Thursday, September 2, 2010 7:17:34 AM

The official Disneyland Paris website is reporting that Rapunzel will be joining the Christmas festivities this year!  (Thank you to the Character Photos Blog for noticing this and posting about it!)

From the Disneyland Paris Official Site

Come and meet your favourite characters, who will be decked out in their festive best, shake their hands and enjoy a very merry break YULE never forget! Get tangled in a magical moment with Rapunzel, the latest heroine from Disney Studios, who appears every day on the Royal Castle Stage. And don’t miss out on the spectacular Mickey’s Winter Wonderland musical, featuring a host of Disney heroes that’s a Christmust-see!

Sadly not currently listed as returning is Winnie the Pooh and Friends, too! which was also missing this summer... not sure if that means it has indeed met the same fate as several other shows recently and will not return or that it is simply not listed yet.

Definitely looking forward to meeting Repunzel when we are there for Christmas season in November!  Wonder if Flynn will be joining her (the princes often join their princess in DLP)... I guess we will find out!  Either way, excited about this news!

Planning the Big One - Walt Disney World Part Two
DisneyDan  Wednesday, September 1, 2010 10:38:32 AM

Continuing my article from before...

(Click here to go back to Part One)

The Studios Park probably offers the best variation of "different" attractions and experiences, besides Animal Kingdom. Probably a day in this park is enough, with maybe that other half day being used for Epcot or Animal Kingdom.
I would recommend for sure the Great Movie Ride. Each ride is different depending on how you catch its sequence as the gun scene can happen in different places.
There are a lot of unique shows here, the best being Beauty and the Beast.
The stunt show is cool, but can be mind numbingly long.  [ Read More... ]

Hi all,

I have a good friend who is planning a trip to WDW for the first time in many years, later this month, and he asked me to put together some hints and tips for him. After I wrote my email to him I realised it would make a great article! So here it is - enjoy!

So first off let me start by providing some really useful links that I hope will help you, and then I'll write my bit :)   [ Read More... ]
